Do you have a travel quotation that has inspired you to take to the open road?
Great quotes. Thank you! 🙂
A pleasure to put them all together here Pit. Wishing you are a great day.
🙂
Loved the quotations, but feel that a most Important one was missed, I know not its origin but ‘TRAVELLING WITH THE ONE YOU LOVE IS A HOME IN MOTION.’ is a quote that is always in mind, especially as a widower I now have travel alone.
I had never seen that quotation before Phillip and I thank you for sharing it. Also my heartfelt sympathy to you.
I love quotes – travel and inspirational. I could not choose one over all the rest. Great post Sue!
Something so uplifting about these collections of words that spur us on to new adventures. Glad you enjoyed these.
I think you have covered them all Sue, but John Erskine reminded us “We have not really budged a step until we take residence in someone else’s point of view.”
I love that one Ray. Isn’t that the truth. To see through the eyes of another.
“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous
Laura that is a brilliant quote. It sums up how I often feel that there isn’t enough time to explore all life has to offer.
I also enjoy reading travel quotes. Some of these are favorites, like the Mark Twain quotes and others are new to me…. Good collection here!
Peta
Peta I am a big Mark Twain fan. That one about ‘Twenty years from now’ has long been a theme for me.
This is a great list, thanks Sue. I will be referring back to this.
Thank you Darlene. Fun to bring them all together here.
A fabulous collection Sue. They’re all good, but the very first one says it all for me 🙂
Alison
Alison as you might expect it holds the number one spot as that is how I feel. It’s all on my list. Everywhere. 🙂
So many great sayings Sue and all of them so true. Wish I could remember them when I’m having a discussion about travelling.
Glad you enjoyed them Jonno. I know a few by heart but like you sometimes I wish I could pull a few out of my pocket as needed.
I love all of them. There were a few here that I’ve never heard. So inspiring. One of my favorites is by Anais Nin– “We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.”
That is an excellent one Wendy that I had not seen before. Really appreciate you sharing it.
This is a great collection of quotes Sue. I’ve heard some before but others are new to me. I also collect quotes, inspirational, travel – I love them all. My favourite is our family motto: To Travel is to Live – Hans Christian Anderson
Now that is an excellent family motto Debbie. You certainly live up to it! Sending hugs your way.
All true! I particularly the first and the third on your list. We still have so many places to visit and I look forward to the adventures that await us. And we don’t buy many souvenirs, but we do bring home lots of memories and photos – the beauty of digital cameras!
Nothing more precious than the memories and experience of travel. I joke that I will need to live to be 150 to see all I want to see.
Don’t you just Love Mark Twain ? 🙂
I do indeed! The one about looking back 20 years from now has been a life motto.
You think of travelers as bold, but our guilty secret is that travel is one of the laziest ways on earth of passing time. –Paul Theroux
Haha that made me smile Badfish. I think I need to do more lazy travel. Great to see you here. How e life is treating you well.
What a wonderful collection of travel quotes, Sue. Some of them I’ve heard and so lovely to revisit and others never heard before. The Mark Twain one is one I’ve heard time and time again – to do things you did, to discover, we’ll never really feel bored. The J.R.R. Tolkein one is a classic – sometimes we just wander because we want to, because it makes us feel good inside. Lovely to see Anthony Bourdain mentioned a few times. He certainly has traveled the world and brought the world to us 🙂
Mabel that Mark Twain one has been a motto of mine for most of my life. It seems to have worked well for me. Like so many others I was shocked and saddened when Anthony Bourdain took his life. Heartbreaking. He made such an impact on so many including me. A no nonsense approach to travel and seeking the lesser known gems to be discovered .
Thanks Sue! I have always loved that first one, “I haven’t been everywhere but it’s on my list.” There’s nothing like travel.
I’m with you on that Cinde. Endless opportunities to explore.
Awesome and inspiring quotes, Sue!! Traveling gets one out of their shell and their comfort zone…growth cannot occur huddled in a corner…Thanks for sharing these quotes!!
Sounds like a quote worth remembering Kirt. Growth cannot occur huddled in a corner. Bravo to that I say!
Oh, there are so many travel quotes that I feel drawn to. You have such a good collection here Sue. Each one speaks to me in different ways. Today I am particularly enamoured by this one: “I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” ~ Mary Anne Radmacher
Shannyn that is a great thought that different quotes speak to us at different times. I have often felt that after visiting a new place, a different culture that I shall thankfully never be the same again. A whole new way of looking at the world.
Thank you so much for setting aside your time to compile all of these thought and emotion provoking quotes! I am looking forward to following your blog!
i’m delighted you enjoyed the collection and many thanks for taking the time to read and leave a comment.
This was a fabulous compilation, Sue – it’s so hard to pick a favorite. The quotes from Anthony Bourdain are particularly poignant and they really resonate given my fondness for food and trying new things when I travel. Khalil Gibran’s poetic entry was one I had never heard before; it sounds a little like something Rumi might have said.
I think I could have filled the article with Anthony Bourdain quotes. Like so many his tragic passing broke my heart. Such an astounding writer he showed me the lesser traveled path is often the best one. Happy to share Gibran with you. Not typically known for travel quotes but I do like this one.
Great quotes with your gorgeous pictures!
I think this may be my new fave!
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
Nancy that one really strikes a chord with me as well. Keeping our eyes open near and afar. So much to see and learn in this wonderful world of ours.
I really like the Bourdain quotes, the Mark Train quote and the Bryson quote. I had never heard this one before though and it sums up how I feel about foreign travel – “Personally I like going places where I don’t speak the language, don’t know anybody, don’t know my way around and don’t have any delusions that I’m in control. Disoriented, even frightened, I feel alive, awake in ways I never am at home.” ~ Michael Mewshaw
I’m smiling Jeff as that one now resonates with me as well. When we first started wandering I detested that feeling of not knowing anything.I think the first time I fell in love wit hit was in turkey. So completely different from anything I had ever seen, hear or known the experience was intoxicatingly disorienting.
To travel is to live! I love all the quotes, Sue. You are a world traveler. These photos are stunning. 🙂
Thank you Amy. You are quite the traveler yourself!
I enjoy travelling as long as I don’t have to do it to often, or for too long. My favourite travel quote is “There’s no place like home.” 😉
You make me laugh out loud Diane. Well in the travel armchair you go and I’ll take you round the world. Think of all that money you are saving on flights. Maybe another audio book with that extra cash? 🙂
These are truly some great travel quotes! I really like your first one by Susan Sontag. I do believe I’ve had just about everywhere on my bucket list forever! 😁😹
Isn’t that the truth Linda? You may have heard me joke that I will need to live to be 150 to get the list done. 🙂
great quotes, Sue! but this one is my favorite.
“Fill your life with adventures not things. Have stories to tell not things to show. ~ Unknown
your love for travel is so inspiring. thank you!!!
I love that one too Lola. I appreciate your kind words sincerely.
I think I browsed last week but didn’t leave a comment, Sue. Glancing through this morning, Badfish managed to make me smile, as always. Wishing you a happy weekend! 🙂 🙂
That Badfish has a way of tickling our funny bone I agree. Please never feel you have to leave a comment Jo. Always happy to connect when it is good for you. Xo
This quote from you “Travel quotations, like seeds in the garden, blossom travel ideas in my brain like a prolific garden. Or like a weed patch depending on who you ask” is brilliant enough to be in the top. I mean it. My favorite of the lot here: “If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness and fears.” by Cesare Pavese. Thanks Sue for this inspiring post.
Mahesh you are extraordinarily kind. Thank you for that sweet feedback. I too like the quotation you have chosen. Traveling with an open heart and mind is a big part of my suggested packing.
I so enjoyed this post, Sue, thanks so much. A lively and diverse array of quotes, and fantastic photos of your wanderlust. I started to ponder my favorite quote, but there were so many I couldn’t pick just one. Thanks for the inspiration, my friend. (Hoping to return to WP next month, have been busy with the refurbishing of our fire-damaged property over the summer, it is intense and demanding, but we are progressing.)
Jet so kind of you to drop by and let us know how things are going. Wish we could pop by and lend a hand. So happy to hear things are progressing and will look forward to updates as you are able.
I did an infographic on how bike touring is akin to life’s journey. And had fun making it:
https://cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com/2018/01/01/bike-touring-some-life-tips/
I remember this one Jean. Take your time and take breaks are two of my favourites. That bee sting sounded awful.
For whatever reason, I’m just not big on quotes. It’s always amazing to me the number of people who are. I think this is just one of those little things that makes each of us a bit different from the other.
Amy I appreciate your honesty. What a boring world it would be if we all we all liked the same things.
Lovely and inspiring quotes, Sue! And your photos from “allover” speak loudly as well. Loved the post 🙂
It was intended for sports, but I think it certainly applies for travel, “Just Do It”-Nike
yes that fills well for a lot of travel and adventure! Thank you.
Loving that Bach quote about clouds Susan! So much wisdom in it. My wife and I have let the Universe guide us over the past 7 years. We sometimes plan with a destination in mind but always need to feel places intuitively. House sits pulled us to places like Cyprus and Qatar; never would have visited these countries unless the sits popped up. Fabulous post!
Ryan
Ryan you and your wife are inspirations. I tend to be a planner and not so open to possibilities. As you say when you were open to the possibilities the adventures took you to destinations you wouldn’t have considered. Being opne to saying yes rather than listening to that inner voice that hesitates. Thanks so much for sharing that experience.
Just loved it “I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”
