Good, clean fun never looked so dirty. Mud Hero Red Deer is Canada’s largest obstacle mud run. The 6km (3.7mi) adventure run and 18 challenging obstacles draw thousands to play in the dirt. Very wet dirt.
The only Mud Hero race in Alberta calls the hills of the Canyon Ski resort near Red Deer home. Mid way between the cities Calgary and Edmonton, participants of all abilities come in droves to the mud soaked event in western Canada.
Why would you want to participate in Mud Hero Red Deer?
If laughter is the best medicine then being a mud hero should be a giant dose of good health. Doing this Red Deer dirty there was giggling, chuckling and I admit to snorting on more than once occasion. Really how can you not laugh at yourself looking like this?
Exercise with a Twist
Tired of that usual gym routine? The same boring weight and cardio program day in day out? Nothing usual about this adventure run. Who knew mud could provide so much resistance training? It’s all smiles at the Red Deer dirty outdoor gym.
Kindness of muddy strangers
Can’t quite slither out of that mud pit? Need some encouragement to overcome that fear of heights? Strangers at Mud Hero Alberta soon become each others cheerleaders in this cooperative effort.
Scaled to ability
Not every mud obstacle race provides this option so be sure to check out various websites before entering. Mud Hero allows for all abilities to experience the thrill and satisfaction of completing an adventure run. Some mud runs are aimed at the elite athlete. It’s an all inclusive mud fest at Mud Hero.
Although I had not realized ahead of time, we crawled through the world’s most epic mud pit. Several foot ball fields in length, it makes for one adventurous dirty dash. The pictures of mud covered participants in this section of the course tells the tale. Definitely epic!
I’m not kidding you. As mud soaked as we were, once clean again our skin felt softer. Like a giant spa treatment. Whether we looked 10 years younger I can’t say. Likely I should have run amuck and stuck my face in as this young man demonstrated.
New appreciation of clean water
The air above the post race shower area fills with sweet exultation. Water from the nearby river showers down on the giddy, back slapping mud heroes. All ages, shapes and sizes bask in a sense of accomplishment and joy at the possibility of being mud free once more.
