My travel partner and I recently celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. Our life has had many journeys, trails and wonderful vistas. Like most long term relationships it has also meandered and stumbled through steep valleys.
“To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow – this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert
Through more than three decades, this life travel partner of mine has been ever steady. While I have concocted endless ideas and schemes, Hubby balances with rationality and reason. When I became passionate about outdoor rock climbing his gift to me was a helmet.
“It doesn’t matter where you are going, it’s who you have beside you. ~ Unknown
To have a best friend to share life with is a true gift. I am grateful every single day. Often readers question why we do so many crazy things. Why we are always on the move. The fact is there is no guarantee of another 33 years, nor 3 years nor 3 days.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain
Should our last day on this earth together be tomorrow or decades from now remains an unknown. My wish is that when the final day comes there will be no regret. It will have been a life jammed full.
I shall keep coming up with ideas and my travel partner will smile, give a little eye roll and we will wander on. I am grateful indeed.
“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life. ” ~ Jack Kerouac
