Feeling in a reflective mood as our European adventure draws to a close it seems fitting to happen upon the inner city beautification project of Nice, the Promenade du Paillon. With the river of the same name running deep beneath the green space, the 128 fountains and misters dancing in the reflecting mirror pools, the sight is a soothing surprise both for locals and tired tourists.

Opened last October, the 1.2 km walk replaced a bus station and car park in an effort to make the area more appealing and increase pedestrian traffic and accessibility for those on bike and foot.
Two massive pools,1000 trees, 6000 shrubs and 55,000 perennials connect the two edges of the Promenade. The botanical design strives to offer a feeling of traveling. Walking through Asia with lemon trees and bamboo , Oceania with eucalyptus, South America with the palm of Chile and North America with dogwoods.
Frankly at this point in our trip the idea of walking through a world’s worth of continents makes me want to nap. However the fountains so intrigue me I can barely stay away from the misting and aquatic shows.
Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for following along, for cheering me up the Tuscan hills on my bike, and for your patience with the search for the elusive Ms Wifi. There are tales left to be told and photos shared from those particularly challenging days.
Special gratitude to our friends and travel companions C and J. What fun to share the adventure. Their endless patience with my seeking out photos and stories for the blog should have them in line for travel companion of the year award.
I don’t believe I saw an eye twitch even once when I said for approximately the 400th time ” I’ll be right back” when heading off to investigate potential for yet one more camera angle.
Last but not least there is this smiley energizer bunny below. Besides all that enthusiasm and fitness the man exudes the patience of a saint. What fabulous fun to travel and to share life with him.
Are you wondering if he ever wore out? Below after hiking up to a castle over looking Nice. Good grief!
Tomorrow we head to Canada with many stories left to share. Sending you our thanks and best wishes to all of you reading. What fun it was to have you along on the journey! We hope you will stay tuned for more.
