Grab your bikes we are headed on a cycling trip to Slovenia!
Slovenia claims the prize as the third most forested country in Europe and has one of the largest populations of brown bears on the continent. Advantage to brown bear hiding in wait for the slowest cyclist for a mid afternoon snack. (That would be me in case you were wondering.)
There are few things that Slovenia can claim as truly being their own, but the wooden, roofed hay rack is one of them.
Double sided hay racks , often used to store farming equipment are called toplars where the single rack is called enojni. There may be a quiz so do pay attention
Due to all of the frequent rainfall in the country, the unique way of keeping one’s hay dry was developed. Particularly in the northwest area of Slovenia the wooden structures are everywhere. Should you be kidnapped by aliens and dropped back down to earth ( this being highly likely I know) if you saw one of these hay racks you could identify your location as Slovenia.
How many hay racks can you count in the photo above?
